4 ways to beat the heat

When the sun is shining and the weather is warm, there is nothing better than a refreshing soft drink to keep you cool.

But as most soft drinks are packed with sugar and additives, it can be tricky to find a drink that is both refreshing and healthy. We’ve rounded up four ways to beat the heat, without piling on the added sugar.

1. Homemade ice lollies

A favourite summertime treat, making ice lollies at home means you can control sugar content while customising flavours. Just whizz together unsweetened Greek yoghurt, your favourite fruits and a drizzle of honey, then freeze – it’s that simple! And to mix it up, you can just blend together fruit for a frozen smoothie pop.

Try classic flavours like mixed berry or strawberry banana, or branch out with unusual or seasonal combinations. You can even add other seasonings like mint, chilli, or chocolate for an extra flavour boost.

2. Frozen fruit

Fruit on a hot day is delicious. Frozen fruit on a hot day? Simply divine. A great alternative to ice cream or sugary drinks, chopped frozen fruit is endlessly snackable and super healthy. Try chopping up oranges, grapes, or watermelon, then freezing for your next summer picnic. Frozen fruit is also a great half time snack for kids’ sports games.

3. Chilli cucumber

Full of water, cucumber is a great snack to prevent dehydration. But you can bring this vegetable to the next level by turning it into a zingy salad. Try mixing cucumber with Asian flavours like chilli, soy sauce and ginger, or combine chilli and lime for a Mexican-inspired salad. Experiment at home, then bring your creation along to your next barbecue to impress and refresh your friends!

4. Overhang

Made with orange and lime, plus botanicals such as ginger, milk thistle, and burdock root, Overhang is the perfect healthy pick-me-up on a hot day. This low-calorie soft drink is also packed with nutrients, with one serving providing 50% of your daily recommended dose of vitamin C, as well as B3, B5, and B6.

Buy, chill, drink, repeat.

Overhang is available on Amazon or on-the-go across the UK. Stockists include Morrisons, Sainsbury’s Holland & Barrett, Tesco, ASDA, and WHSmiths.
